![]() ![]() The paperback comes in at 352 pages long and is a fairly quick read considering the engaging style (to be explored more in the in-depth part of the review). Mythos was written by Stephen Fry who, though best known for his acting, is a scholar of history and has written multiple other history books ( author’s website and Amazon profile with his other books). I had listened to some of Fry’s other narrated books (including an outstanding complete collection of Sherlock Holmes stories), and I knew I liked both his narration and his approach to storytelling. I found this book on an Audible sale, and I picked it up immediately. What does Mythos bring to the table? Can legendary actor and comedian Stephen Fry lend his voice to tell the myths in a way that elevates them above the myriad other collections? I would recommend this book to my family, friends, neighbors, and strangers I pass by on the street. Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? I was not disappointed and I'll keep this and listen again and again over the years. The narrator starts out somewhat stilted, but soon finds a comfortable rhythm. The Audible version added dimensions I thought not possible to the original book, which is beautifully written. I can't say enough about the value of having both versions of "treasured" books. I own the ebook version and now the audible. They say men can't write romance! Ryan does it better, he writes real life, heartbreak and the courage to overcome these obstacles and his surrounding characters jump off the page. My only, only critique of this book is the rather hurried ending. ![]() ![]() it seems society may never grow up - or lose it's sexist stance. Ryan does a great job of addressing the angst surrounding older women dating younger men. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you will share in the pain, beauty and joy of these two. I mean, he went from a poor, illiterate peasant to to the greatest conqueror in history– just add some dragons and wizards, and you’ve got yourself a fantasy novel. While the “great man” theory of history has a lot of unfortunate implications, there’s no arguing that Genghis Khan left an indellible mark on history. It is, as one would expect, about the life and empire of Genghis Khan. I heard about Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World in passing, and finally decided to track down a copy. The Mongol Empire was one of those stretches of history I was vaguely familiar with, in that I knew a bunch of guys on horses conquered a whole bunch of stuff, but I was a little short on details.
